Chuck Graham
Freelance writer and photographer Chuck Graham, has been a city beach lifeguard for 31 years and has led kayak tours at the Channel Islands National Park since 1998. His work has appeared in Backpacker, BBC Wildlife Magazine, National Geographic, Men’s Journal, Natural History, American Forests, High Country News, and Westways. His award-winning book, Carrizo Plain, Where the Mountains Meet the Grasslands, was released in January 2021. His newest book – Paddling into a Natural Balance, Stories of Kayaking and Conservation around Channel Islands National Park, was published in November 2023. IG: @chuckgrahamphoto.
Holly Lohuis
Holly Lohuis is a marine biologist, conservationist, and educator known for her passionate advocacy for ocean conservation. With over 30 years of experience, she has dedicated her life to studying and protecting marine ecosystems around the world. Graduating from University of CA, Santa Barbara in marine science, her work includes over 25 years with Jean-Michel Cousteau and his marine conservation organization, Ocean Futures Society. Her work includes being an expedition diver, on-camera marine biologist and a field producer. This has taken her around the world with Jean-Michel Cousteau and his production team, showcasing the wonders of our water planet and illuminating the urgent need for its protection. Holly was the co-star of Jean-Michel Cousteau’s 3D IMAX film, Secret Ocean as well as featured in PBS’s 11-hour series, Jean-Michel Cousteau Ocean Adventure.
She also works as a naturalist for Island Packers-boat concessionaire to the Channel Islands National Park, marine educator with Santa Barbara Maritime Museum and a volunteer ranger for Channel Islands National Park, on San Miguel Island. She worked on Ponant’s Le Commandant Charcot in Jan 23’ and Jan 24' leading an Antarctic Adventure Program for young passengers in the Weddell Sea and Antarctica Peninsula. Most recently, Holly has become the Co-Director of the newly designated Santa Barbara Channel Whale Heritage Area, highlighting our region’s commitment to responsible tourism and conservation initiatives aimed at protecting whales, dolphins, and their marine habitats.
Recognized and awarded for her work in marine education, Holly inspires audiences of all ages to appreciate and protect the oceans. Through her various roles as a marine biologist, educator, and advocate, Lohuis continues to make significant contributions to marine conservation and ocean education efforts locally and globally. Holly resides in Carpinteria, CA with her partner Chuck Graham and her 19 year old son, Gavin.
