In this exclusive webinar, Russ Bradley, Cal State University Channel Islands Director of the Santa Rosa Island Research Station will discuss this unique interdisciplinary program in Channel Islands National Park, and his team's efforts to create transformational educational and research experiences for students and the local community. The program at the SRIRS provides students, faculty, researchers, and community members with opportunities to participate in research and education via a partnership between the US National Park Service and CSU Channel Islands. Join us in learning from Russ about Santa Rosa Island, the program, and his role in facilitating these experiences.
Meet Our Presenter:
Russ Bradley: The Director of the Santa Rosa Island Research Station grew up loving islands, the ocean, education, and conservation. Originally from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, islands and the ocean were a way of life for Russ.
After completing his M.S. in Wildlife Ecology, he began a 17-year long tenure with the Farallon Islands program of Point Blue Conservation Science as a biologist and Program Leader. There, he published over 50 peer-reviewed scientific research articles ranging from seabird ecology and habitat restoration to climate change and resource management.
Russ has been the Cal State University Channel's Islands SRIRS Director since August 2018, leading up program administration, research, education, and liaising between many partner agencies like the National Park Service.
Russ considers this his "dream job” and helps bring transformative remote research station experiences to CI’s diverse students. He is excited to be a part of the CI community and to lead the SRIRS as it stabilizes and expands into the future.
