Help us protect our habitat restoration sites from weeds!
In December of 2019, the Cave Fire scorched a large part of the San Marcos Foothills Preserve - including our restoration site at Cieneguitas Creek. Our native plants are well adapted to fire - they've lived with it for tens of thousands of years, and many native plants actually rely on fire for various reasons. However, things aren't the same as they were 10,000 years ago. Our restoration site still has a relatively fledgeling population of native plants, and it is constantly under threat of being smothered by encroaching native plants. While our native plants are still being established, we need to help protect them by weeding out the invasive plants.
When:
Saturdays in February: 1st, 8th, and 15th
from 9:00 to 3:00.
Important: Please note that we will hike 1 mile to and from the work site.
Join us on a Saturday in February 1st, 8th, or 15th and ensure that our native plants have a fighting chance! We'll meet at the Via Gaitero entrance at 9 am and hike down to the restoration site, which is about 1 mile down the trail. We'll work until 2:30 with a lunch break around noon, and then head back.
We'll be working to remove invasive plants like black mustard, sweet fennel, castor bean, and more. Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toed shoes. Be sure to bring sun protection and a lunch as well!
RSVPs are not required but greatly appreciated because it helps us keep track of how many people are coming. Thank you!
