The Yellow star thistle is found on Santa Cruz Island in the early 1900s. It can easily threaten native ecosystems and harm native plant and animal populations through large spines, it’s ability to spread rapidly, and it’s toxicity to certain animals. The seeds of the Yellow star thistle are also difficult to dispose of and can easily be carried across great distances. The Yellow star thistle currently grows on Santa Cruz Island but is also found on Santa Rosa Island.
