Scientific Name: Rana aurora draytonii
The California red-legged frog is one of the most threatened amphibian species in North America. It has been listed as a threatened species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act since 1989 and is also listed as a "red data" animal by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It is also known as Rana aurora draytonii, and it belongs to the family of Ranidae. The frogs are found in ponds and streams near waterfalls, they can also be found in other habitats like vernal pools and marshes. The population of this species has been declining over the years due to habitat loss and degradation. Channel Islands Restoration works to restore habitat that these frogs depend on such as riparian habitat in the Los Padres National Forest.
