The ubiquitous Olive tree, found commonly in other parts of the world were first planted on Santa Cruz Island at the turn of the 20th century and have since spread drastically across the island ecosystems. Olive trees can alter the native plant communities and compete for light and other natural resources that flora and fauna depend on for their survival. Olives are spread through a number of species on the islands including pigs, birds, and other terrestrial animals. The olive has predominantly been located on Santa Cruz Island for it’s time on the Channel Islands.
