Scientific Name: Anniella pulchra

The legless lizard is appropriately named for it’s lack of legs. It differs from snakes in that it has eyelids that can move and it can detach it’s tail to trick predators. Found in California, the legless lizard has a silver color and often looks for food or vegetation just before the soil for nutrients. It’s predominantly found along the Central Coast but also occurs along the Mexico/American border and in the San Joaquin Valley. These fun legless friends find themselves frequently in coastal dune habitat and can adapt to find moisture in the environment.
