Join Our Summer Kick-Off Series with Friends and Family!

Saturday, June 10 | Saturday, June 17

We have a special educational volunteer opportunity this June. Join environmental educators in the Los Padres National Forest and spend time with the community volunteering in nature. You're welcome to join us for one or both days!

CIR is back in the Los Padres National Forest with an exciting series of events! With the help of our educational experts, we’re hosting restoration and education volunteer days on Paradise Road, located a stone’s throw away from Santa Barbara, Ventura, Ojai, Solvang, and Santa Ynez.

CIR’s Cowboy Cookout series will bring the community together for volunteerism and education, with the option to enjoy either BBQ style food or a vegetarian-friendly meal.

Join us for one or both days and feel free to bring a friend! This event is a great opportunity to help us help our partners at the Los Padres National Forest.

We’ll remove a highly invasive plant before it gets any deeper into the forest and develop an introduction to wilderness training and environmental knowledge alongside outdoor enthusiasts.

We hope you can join us for a rewarding restoration day.

Share our flyer with your friends and family who may want to attend this adventure!

Meet Our List Of Environmental Educators

Doug Morgan

Doug is CIR’s lead Project Manager and is incredibly familiar with the in and outs of the Los Padres National Forest. In Doug’s own words he says, that he “didn't realize that within a year of joining CIR that I would have become intimate with every inch of the Los Padres National Forest, and most of the tributaries too. I have had the unique experience through CIR to see the immediate positive impact of our work compared to how it looked before and how it was 30 years ago.”

Doug will lead the volunteer efforts for our event to remove Spanish broom (Spartium junceum) and teach participants about restoration, recovery, safety, and the logistics of our activites.

Steve Junak

Steve has recently retired from his longtime position as the Garden’s Herbarium Curator. He is an active researcher and expert on the flora of the islands of California and Baja California. Steve holds an M.A. in botany, has led field trips for more than 25 years, and has co-authored several books on the Channel Islands including A Flora of San Nicolas Island and Flora of Santa Cruz Island. We’re excited to have Steve lead a trip to Cherry Canyon for a unique botanical experience.

Susie Bartz

As a geology educator, Susie Bartz has worked for over 20 years with schools and community organizations to bring an awareness of earth science to the general public in outdoor settings
