About Coastal Sage Scrub

Coastal sage scrub is a plant community found on the Channel Islands. It is a shrubland with a mix of coastal and inland plants. The Channel Islands are home to many endemic species, including the island fox, island deer mouse, and island night lizard. The Channel Islands are also home to coastal sage scrub, which is an endangered habitat that has been threatened by invasive species such as European beach grass.

Coastal Sage Scrub is characterized by its low-growing, drought-tolerant plants and shrubs. These plants are adapted to the coastal climate with their thick, waxy leaves and small stature. The Channel Islands are located off of the coast of California and consist of eight major islands: San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa, Santa Barbara, San Nicolas, Santa Catalina and San Clemente. They are all part of a national park that preserves this unique ecosystem.
