About Our Mission To Restore Habitat

We’re a 501(c)(3) non-profit contractor that works to restore habitat on the Channel Islands and adjacent mainland through invasive plant management, native plant propagation, and native plant installation.

We promote environmental education on the Central Coast through lectures, service trips, and habitat restoration volunteer opportunities. We conduct research and monitoring to identify further habitat restoration efforts.

We’re Establishing A Native Plant Garden with Local Chumash Groups

Local Chumash pose at the Foothills, kicking off our first collaborative native garden.

In close collaboration with local Chumash groups, Channel Islands Restoration is establishing a native plant garden in the community. As of 2023, our first project is underway, planting purple needlegrass (Stipa pulchra) and other natives at the San Marcos Foothills West Mesa.

CIR is also making improvements to the trail system at the West Mesa to enhance the visitor experience and protect native wildlife who reside at the San Marcos Foothills.
